Fitness guides by Fitness At Home of Christchurch, New Zealand

If you’re unsure about which equipment you need to meet your goals, the following guide may help you select the right product for your needs.

I WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT AND BURN FAT

Our exercise bikes and treadmills are ideal for helping with weight loss.

The best way to burn up calories is to exercise at a low intensity for about 30 minutes every day, so walking and cycling are an ideal type of exercise for burning fat.

What’s the evidence?

A greater percentage of calories are burned when you average between 65% and 75% of your theoretical maximum heart rate. Lower intensity exercise allows you to work out at a lower heart rate optimizing the amount of fat that you burn.

I WANT TO FIRM AND TONE MY MUSCLES

Our exercise bikes, treadmills, air rowers and elliptical cross trainers are ideal for toning your body.

The ideal formula for toning muscles is to target the muscles you want to work on and exercise against a light force for a period of 20 minutes each day.

What’s the evidence?

To tone muscles you need to exert a force against or stimulate the particular muscles you are targeting. This force should be of light or medium strength to avoid building muscles but still be enough to create a toned effect.

I WANT TO IMPROVE MY AEROBIC FITNESS LEVEL

Our exercise bikes, treadmills, air rowers and elliptical cross trainers are ideal for improving fitness.

Aerobic exercise is any sustained activity that sends oxygen to your muscles via your heart and lungs, thus improving the fitness of your heart and lungs. The best way to improve your aerobic fitness is to exercise at a medium to high capacity for a period of 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times a week.

What’s the evidence?

Aerobic fitness is best achieved by exercising at 75% to 90% of your theoretical maximum heart rate. Aerobic fitness is promoted by any activity that uses your large muscles – for example your legs or buttocks – and makes your heart beat quickly and you breathe deeply.
